Melrose recently sent out a small number of violation notices for Pride Flags during the month of June. In a good-faith action, those violation notices have been retracted by a majority vote of the board on 7/1/2021.
The board also took a majority vote on 7/1 in favor of adding Pride Month to our community’s approved list of holidays for decorations listed in the Community Standards And Architectural Guidelines Document. This means that for Pride Month our community allows decorations to be displayed from May 29th through July 2nd.
Last but not least, we encourage our community to help write, consider, and then vote on an amendment to the Covenants that would be popular enough with our neighbors to earn votes from 60% of homeowners that would enable a change that allows larger Pride flags (e.g. a flag-like decoration longer than 36 inches) during Pride Month so those could also be used next year. Until that happens, all flags (e.g. any flag-like decoration that is longer than 36 inches) will generate a violation notice – except, per state statute, for religious, military, and American flags.
Wondering if all flags less than 36″ are now approved or just the Pride flag. Just trying to figure out if we are being selective in the approach and pandering to Facebook outcries or are we actually ammending for all….
Flags have not changed at all it will take a community wide vote to make an adjustment.
Under our current rules small garden flags are allowed – Community Guidelines, Ornaments, number 7:
Lawn ornaments include, but are not limited to:
